Savings through load shifting with AlphaESS

Hi Stewart, I hope you are well.

We have just had our latest electricity bill which completes the year since our solar/battery system was installed.

With different usage patterns it is difficult to say how much we have saved with the system but by using the grid charging option we significantly reduced our peak usage with the bulk of our usage coming from off-peak. So bill is almost identical to same period last year despite a 10% increase in overall usage and the price increase.

I have done some rough calculations on what usage would have cost on both time of use and flat rate tariffs, using last years prices for simplicity. On this basis it looks as though our actual electricity costs are 85% lower on ToU tariff than would have been on flat rate. So in our case of being able to juggle our usage and make use of grid charging it is to our benefit to remain on ToU.

Not sure if that would apply to all your customers but I thought that you would be interested in our experience.

Kind regards David

Testimonial for Kim in Sydney with ‘Solar Storage’

I had been thinking about installing STORAGE after having a small PV grid feed in system for over 5 years. When Tesla last year announced that they would start to produce batteries I decided I would look into the storage more closely. I did some research and found AlphaESS had been making systems for a few years already so I took the plunge and bought the Lithium system and 13 more SUNPOWER panels from Australia Wide Solar. I was particularly impressed with the integration of the AlphaESS system – it comes as an integrated inverter, modular batteries and very sophisticated control system all in one cabinet. The Lithium batteries were more expensive but superior to Lead-Acid, with the cycle lives expected and Alpha’s manufacture guarantee it was a clear choice to invest in a Lithium system.

I would describe the system as elegant. You can really see everything you need on the online monitoring and the cabinet. I love that I can see how much electricity I’m using throughout the day. Integrating the load amount, the PV-production and feed-in in one interface makes it easy to read. We have even been able to be 100% self-sufficient on more than a few occasions.

I was glad to find out that the Alpha system can handle load from different areas simultaneously. If the load is fully supplied by PV and batteries charged then the excess is fed into the grid seamlessly.

My main motivation to install such a system came from my passion for the environment and to leave no carbon footprint. I do many things like replacing light bulbs and storing water to reduce my impact and Alpha’s system was just the next step.

The after sales service from Alpha and Australia Wide Solar was second to none, their engineers answer all queries very quickly and addressed any and all problems faced. I can tell the employees are passionate about their jobs and the solutions they provide. I would recommend Alpha’s products to anyone.

It’s when you’ve got young grandchildren, it really comes home to you: what’s their future? Because if we keep elevating carbon dioxide and we have global warming and the oceans rise, there’s going to be massive displacement of population.

Mr Warren Bolton, Kulnura. Powering my: Farm, Home and Tesla Electric Car

I wished to take a new step towards the dream: to be fuel free as of 2015, with my purchase of a Tesla Model S 85. I started 2015 with no need for fuel, no need for gas and no need to buy electricity from the grid. The unique thing about this entire system is that it is an AC bus system.

I have always been excited by new technology, and I like to have the best of everything. Using the expertise of Australia-Wide Solar to design and install a photovoltaic system that will charge my Tesla S 85 at my off-grid farm is very reassuring.

I was looking for a local supplier as I didn’t want someone flying to Sydney to install my system – that carbon would take years to offset!

I bought my first solar system on 7 February 2006.

I’m a member of the Alternative Technology Association and I’d been talking and preaching about sustainable energy for a long time, but hadn’t actually done it myself!

I’d been to visit Michael Mobbs’ Sustainable House back in ’97 and I knew Australia Wide Solar had completed his solar system. I was also looking for a local supplier: I didn’t want someone flying to Sydney to install my solar system – that carbon would take years to offset!

We decided on a 1.8kW 12-panel system. It was great fun watching the old analogue meter wheel going backwards when my solar system was first installed!

I really didn’t worry about the return. It wasn’t about that for me. But when I sold off my first lot of REC’s and then the Government introduced the gross feed-in tariff, I thought I’d get a second system.

Going solar is just a win:win for me and the power company. I get free, green energy and they don’t have to install another sub-station.

I’ve also got a solar hot water system. I’ve double glazed the windows and have added insulation to the ceiling. I’m thinking about getting a heat reflective coating on the roof next.

I talk to everyone about getting solar panels installed. It might cost a bit initially but the savings are far greater for you, the children, the grand children and the planet. Everyone should be doing it.

I have no regrets about going solar with Australia Wide Solar. Their price, service and attitude was excellent.

We recently installed an 8-panel 1.5kW Conergy system.

We already had solar hot water and as we had a north-facing roof at the back of the house, it was the perfect spot for another system.

We attended an information night at Willoughby Council and Stewart was there alongside three other solar companies.

I was very impressed by how prepared and knowledgeable Stuart was. He took the time to answer every question I had in detail and was obviously very passionate about solar energy.

All the team at Australia Wide Solar were very courteous and efficient. They came round to complete an estimate shortly after the Info Night and while the winter weather delayed the installation a few days, they were on and off-site in about half-a-day.

I’ve not received my first quarter’s energy bill yet – it arrives in two weeks, but it’s the first time I’ve been keen to receive one! But either way I have no regrets about going solar with Australia Wide Solar. Their price, service and attitude was excellent.

Just wanted to send you both a note to complement the work done by your staff. Cameron, Warwick & Adam are to congratulated for the fine work they did installing our solar panels.Their commitment is doing the job properly and neatly, their attention to detail and their care in ensuring nothing was damaged while completing the work is a credit to them and your company.

In the past two years we have had to deal with many tradesmen, builders and suppliers and the results have not always been what we had hoped for and ins some cases has been very upsetting. But the work done by the guys from Australia Wide Solar has been the best that we have experienced bar none.

I have already recommended your company to four friends who have been investigating the installation of PV panels.

Please pass on our thanks to all of them.

When an Assessor came round to check the inverter, they said it was the best system install they’d ever seen and the power output was exceptional.

The cost of electricity has been on everybody’s lips, but I really had no clue about solar power. And when I was looking, I just couldn’t find the information I needed: what size and type of panels should I get? Where should I put them? How much energy would they produce? What does all the jargon mean?

So I phoned lots of people and took a few months to do my research. Some of the companies I rang just didn’t answer or ring me back; others weren’t interested in coming out to see me. A couple of the companies I rang recommended I contact Australia Wide Solar as they have a great reputation in the industry.

I must have rang Australia Wide Solar half a dozen times with different questions, but I was determined to gain all the knowledge I needed. And every time I rang, no matter who I spoke to, I always got a detailed and courteous response. Australia Wide Solar always gave me the answers. They were always willing to explain and not fob me off.

When they came out to see me, talked me through my panel, inverter and cabling options and gave me a cost and energy estimate, I knew I had the right company. I didn’t need another quote.

An when I realised the gross feed-in tariff was 60c, I think that was what got me over the line. My electricity bill at that time was about $200 a month, now it’s $80 and falling. So I’m more than happy with that return.

I went for a 12-panel Conergy system in the end. The crew that came out were very dedicated and the workmanship was excellent. When Energy Australia Assessor came round to check the inverter, they said it was the best system install they’d ever seen and the power output was exceptional.

I just wish I’d done it earlier.

As a former small business owner myself, I would always try to treat my customers like I wanted to be treated. And with Australia Wide Solar I certainly feel that. They just seem like a happy, proud and determined team. It was a genuinely rewarding experience working with them.

The communication was great. Everyone seemed to know what the other person was doing and what was going to happen next. They seemed like a well-oiled machine.

Solar power had been very expensive until the government subsidies came in. One of my neighbours investigated getting a system and was very impressed by Australia Wide Solar. I followed his recommendation. Australia Wide Solar came to my house and answered all my questions. They came up with a clever way of running the cabling that meant the minimum of fuss and it was virtually invisible.

Australia Wide Solar talked me through a couple of different configurations for my flat roof. I decided to go for a 16-panel system and it’s been generating me an average of 100kW a week ever since.

The installation went very smoothly. The installers were very professional and friendly and really listened to my concerns about the cabling.

I had a query about my inverter about a week after the install. I called Australia Wide Solar on a Saturday and someone arrived within the hour.

What’s great about the feed-in tariff is that I can now go on holiday and my roof is still earning money. Everyone wins. The more Solar Power that is returned to the electricity grid, the less need there is for power generated by the coal fired power stations, thus reducing carbon pollution.
